January is the most popular time of year for people to start a health kick. Gyms and slimming clubs become awash with fresh faced people desperately trying to be healthier and lose a bit of extra Christmas weight. So why don’t we have the same health kick for our mental health? Being physically healthy is important to help aid our mental wellbeing, so there certainly is no detriment to having a health kick in January, but it is equally as important to think about our mental health (and the mental health in others) too.
The third Monday of January is known as “blue Monday” This has been calculated as the most depressing day of the year. This was based on a combination of the time after Christmas, cold dark nights and unpaid credit card bills arriving. What a lovely thought for us all to look forward to later in the month. On this topic, there are many contributing factors that can cause stress and anxiety in the new year including; a broken routine from having time off at Christmas, a long space of time between pay day in December and January (making January feel like the longest month ever!) and overspending in the boxing day/January sales (I'm certainly guilty of this one!). Not to mention trying and failing to meet our over ambitious New Year’s resolutions.
So all around, January can be a tough one for a lot of people.
January is also a time to make a fresh start and draw a line under 2019 and focus on what you really want to achieve in 2020. Both on a personal level but also a business level. We set ourselves those new year resolutions for a reason. It's a chance for us to reflect on 2019 and think about changes we want to make. Put yours, your colleagues and your employee's wellbeing at the top of your New Year's resolution list.
Our Mental Health Awareness course is a half day interactive session which highlights some of the key areas of mental health, it not only looks at the signs and symptoms of some of the most common mental ill health problems but it also looks at causes and how we can help build our resilience.
To help kick start your wellbeing New Year resolutions, we have a little New Year gift for you. We are offering our Mental Health half day Awareness course to all our clients at a very special price of £350 (+VAT) for up to 12 delegates (saving you over £300).
